Transition of Chinese Women’s social status

In the modern times, the social status of women in a country can always represent the civilization of this country. In other words, the more advanced the national civilization, the more respect their women get. I would like to take my family for an example. My great-grandmother is a so-called “traditional woman”: She’s hardworking, modesty, and taught to be a dedicator for her husband and family. People of her generation believed that “Husband and family is the whole world of a woman”, women have no need to accept the education at that time, and most of them could not decide their own lives. Before they marry someone, they should obey their parents; after they married someone, they should obey their husbands and parents-in-law; if their husbands die, they were expected to take care of their sons and couldn’t marry another person, while men could have many wives. In my great-grandmother’s times, women have little rights, they couldn’t master their own fates. As for my grandmother, things had been changed a little bit. Like my great-grandmother, she couldn’t read, too. But she’s the only wife of my grandfather, and Chinese people had realized that men and women should be treated equally. After my grandfather died, she became the leader of our family. She has devoted herself to the family and we all respect her and love her. The third woman I’d like to mention is my mother. Dislike my great-grandmother and my grandmother, she’s a modern woman: well-educated, smart, humorous and very independent. In her times, women do not willing to stay at home and be quiet dolls of men. They ask for equal positions as men at work, make their own decisions on their marriage and many other issues. Well, for us-the younger generation, there’s no doubt that women are born to be equal as men. So, when we face the discriminations today, we’ll fight for our rights instead of keeping silent. Indeed, problems still exiting, like some enterprises refuse to hire women unreasonably. Since there’re still discriminations against women all around, China actually has a long way to go.
